Transposition of a mountain

The Physics Room, Christchurch,

11 - 14 July 2006

Collaborative performance and installation with James McCarthy.

Spanning the back wall of The Physics Room, James McCarthy constructed a large wall drawing of the Southern Alps in piano wire. The drawing was performed by the artist with the aid of a rock climbing harness and tensioned wire in a one-night only audio visual performance. The drawing remained, creating an opportunity for visitors to play the instrument themselves with Jenny Gillam's video mix of sampled images playing alongside the drawing in an exploration of sound, image and location.
